DIY Fashion Sew Runway

M6969 Balmain Inspired Jumpsuit

Hi There !
Army green, camo green, olive. Whatever you prefer to call it, you can’t escape it. This color is all over the runways, and has been for a couple seasons now. Another thing popping up all over? Balmain. The young designer is dressing everyone, and the collections have been more than inspiring season after season. I still keep going back to the military inspired show that was done a few seasons back. It was so iconic that I knew I had to make a piece inspired by the collection.

I had McCalls 6969 up on my design wall, but I didn’t quite know what to do with it. Looking at the line drawings it first struck me as super casual. This runway show was anything but. Then I noticed I could hack the top from view D and bottoms of view C to give me a more trendy look that would be more “heel” friendly. For this “Franken-pattern” I simply cut View D at the waistline, and taped it to the bottom of View C to make one continuous piece.

It turned out well, although I probably won’t make another version of this pattern because there are so many other great jumpsuit patterns out right now.

I’m always inspired by runway shows, and NYFW is underway. Make sure to check back for more designer inspired pieces!

    1. Hi Yadira! Thanks for stopping by. I would start searching for tutorials on notched collars. Even if it is for a men’s sport coat it will be the same basic construction. Hope this helps!

  1. Such a well-made jumpsuit! I have this pattern (picked it up to make the shorts romper), however, your perspective takes this pattern to another level. The color is awesome. How hard or easy was it to do the elastic around the ankles? Looks really great.

    1. Thank you girl! The “jogger” look was really simple. It’s just two bands of elastic. Put one on the bottom and fold up then sew & repeat! The instructions were pretty clear on that part if I’m remembering correctly lol
