This week I have a super easy pattern hack. I saw quite a few dresses on Pinterest that had a chic oversized feel. I didn’t know how I felt about the look at first, but for some reason I kept going back to it. Then I stumbled upon the Victoria Beckham version of the dress, and fell head over heels.
Of course $3600 is out of the question for me, but I needed in on this look! There’s something so flattering about the swing dress. It makes you look like you have long lean legs, and if I can skip leg day because my dress gives an illusion that I’ve spent months in the gym, SIGN ME UP!
When I thought about how I would wear this type of dress I decided to give it a slight casual spin so it could go from dressy at work to running around the house with baby. I used pattern M6886 which is a simple bodycon style dress. The fabric for my wearable muslin is a ponte roma knit I had in my stash. Here are my modifications:
- Starting at the bust line, made a new cut line at an angle to increase volume in the dress
- Made a high-low hemline with a french curve ruler
- Cut the front and back pieces right above bust line to create seam
- Created a facing for the front and back neckline from the same pattern pieces
The only thing I would do different next time (and trust me there will be more of these in my future!) would be to add more volume.
My shoes are from Steve Madden, and I think they are still available in one color-way here. So comfy, I have them in two colors!
It has been a super productive week! Can you believe I started this blog right after I had baby, and he will be one in two weeks? It’s mind blowing how fast time flies! I thank you all for stopping by, and sharing the blog with the people you love. What are you working on right now, I’d love to know!
