DIY Sleeveless Jacket V8930

Hey There Dolls!

I saw sleeveless jackets all over last spring, and since we have no fall in Vegas I decided I could use a sleeveless jacket now while the rest of you are preparing for the cold. I am so happy I made this jacket because I see it working well with A TON of outfits in the “cooler” (75 degree) weather.

The pattern I used for this look was Vogue 8930. I made a few modifications based on how I wanted my jacket to look. I omitted the sleeves, raised and added a real arm hole. I also took a lot of the bulk out on the front pattern pieces since I didn’t like how big the original pattern was. I used the unlined version of the pattern because I needed my jacket to be light enough to wear in the warm weather here.

I used a black and white houndstooth woven fabric that has been in my stash for a couple years. The fabric frayed very easily so I decided to use bias binding on all of the edges.

As far as my outfit, I stepped out of my usual “Glam Goddess” look and went with a cute casual feel. I LOVE THESE SHOES. I received them gratis from one of my brands at work, Clarks, and they are so comfy. I cant remember why I chose this style, but I’m glad I did. They are casual, yet can still be dressed up since they have that smooth leather upper.

I also found a similar style jacket with sleeves on Net-A-Porter. The Stella McCartney version does have sleeves and a lot more bulk, but if you are anywhere east of Las Vegas I’m sure this would be better for you.

  1. I adore this piece. The fabric is beautiful and the black seam binding adds a nice quality. There are so many ways to wear this. It drapes beautifully. Nice styling with the shoes.

    1. Thank you! Make your peacoat and suit, wear it once and then let’s switch climates! That way I can know what a real winter is, and I can sew all the wool I want!! Lol have a great day

  2. I know this post is a few months old but these shoes…is this by any chance Clark’s Glick sole? I want to look for them but need a place to start. Love the vest too!

    1. Hi Charlotte, thanks for stopping by! These are from their Narrative collection and I believe are the Coll sole. I work for Zappos, you can always start there 🙂
