DIY Poncho + Simplicity 1283

Hi dolls!

Sometimes we get so caught up in the business of blogging that we forget why we started in the first place. I just realized that I’ve been blogging for an entire year! That’s an amazing accomplishment for something that started when I was bored out of my mind at home for 3 months with a newborn. It has been a long road, and quite the learning experience! I’m grateful for all of your kind words and warm wishes, and I look forward to having another fun year ahead.

That being said, I will get into the deets about my outfit. I need pants. I am severely lacking in the pant and shirt department. I blame my love of dresses. I don’t know if I actually have a dress obsession or if I just know that roughly a yard of fabric is enough for a cute dress, and always choose to buy small yardages haha!

I decided to make some pants. I went back and forth on this pattern, because I have seen some very tight-fitting bell-bottom looking versions that weren’t my cup of tea. I wanted something different so I said what the heck and went for it. I went up a size when I cut the pattern out so that I wouldn’t get that (popular desert animal “toe”) look. Not cute at any age. Keep in mind that knit patterns have negative ease and are meant to stretch over the body so choosing the correct size can be difficult.

I paired it with this poncho I made a couple years ago. This fabric is so warm, and it is perfect for our mild winters here in the casino ridden deserts LOL.

A little less glam than my usual, but I like to switch it up! I like the way it came together, and I can see myself in this outfit at work or on a shopping date with the family. Grocery shopping. Because everywhere I walk is a runway. Lol I’m kidding for sure. I have a friend who’s philosophy on life is exactly that. She is always dressed to the 9’s and I LOVE IT.

Have a great week!

  1. Love the look! I really need to move S1283 up my to sew list. I don’t particularly love high-waisted pants (well I do my “pooch” doesn’t) but I think I will give these a try.The pants go well with the colorful cape.

  2. Oh forgot to add. I have a SERIOUS dress problem as well. For me it’s the minimal amount of fabric needed and the ease. I can whip up a dress much faster than I can properly fit a pair of pants. Tops are easy too but I could just as quickly sew up a dress and don’t have to match the dress with anything except for a cute pair of shoes.
